We are delighted that Denise and Mike Summers have been invited to receive the award of membership of the Fellowship of St Birinus for their many years dedicated service to St Mary’s, particularly Mike’s roll as church warden and bell tower captain, and Denise’s in leading the choir, amongst many other activities. Congratulations to them both!
In May 2009 the Bishop of Dorchester founded the Fellowship of St Birinus, as a way of acknowledging people who have given exceptional service in some way to their church and community over a number of years. Mike and Denise Summers will be joining the Fellowship at a service on 18th September at Dorchester Abbey and it is hoped they will be supported by members of the congregation.
A special Choral Evensong will be held at St Mary’s on 25 September to celebrate. (St Birinus was the first Bishop of Dorchester from the year 634 to 649 A.D. Birinus’s original commission entailed preaching to parts of Britain where no missionary efforts had reached.)
